Raúl is a chess teacher, jazz player, street player, and gambler. She maintains a tense relationship with her ex, Rachel, and Fernando, her son’s stepfather. Osdalgia Vidaux is a Santiago Grand Master, a devout Christian and mother of a family. The National Championship is celebrated and she has to beat her rival, if she wants to participate in the World Cup. Pedro and Pablo are 11-year-old children who, thanks to the game, become friends in 1966, due to the reigning fury in the country for the celebration of the Chess Olympics in Havana. 52 years later, they are two old diabetics and disabled. Pablo’s daughter comes from Havana to Santiago to take her father, thus, putting an end to so many years of chess hobby between the two friends.
