Agustí Villaronga
Film director, screenwriter and actor
When Agustí was only a child, he played to make projections with drawings, boxes of matches and lanterns. At age 14, he decided to become a director.
He has worked as an Image teacher as well as artistic director, decorator, stylist and producer of fashion videos, all of this being a preliminary step for his foray into the cinematographic context with his first shorts: “Anta mujer” (1976), “Laberint” “(1980) and” Al Mayurka “(1980).
In 1987 and with less than 30 million pesetas, he brings together the team and the ideal conditions to carry out his long-awaited dream of filming a feature film, his debut feature “Tras el cristal”, being selected for the Berlin Festival.
In 2001 he received the National Film Award of Catalonia.
In 2010 he premiered “Pa negre” (based on the novel “Pa negre” and “Retrat d’un assassi d’ocells”, by the writer Emili Teixidor) winning 9 Goya Awards (among them the Best Direction) of a total of 14 nominations.
In 2011 he was awarded the National Cinematography Award and his film, “Pa negre”, selected to compete for the Oscar for the best non-English speaking film.
In 2017 he directed “Incerta glòria” nominated for the best screenplay at the Goya Awards 2018.
