The Andorran film “Nick” has won the popular vote award of the Calella Film Festival. One day after the last film session in the Sala Mozart, which was “I,Tonya”, on Sunday, the organization of the contest has made the recount of the public vote and the thriller “Nick”, by the director José Pozo, has obtained popular support
The 7,000 spectators who have gone through all the film sessions and events during the Calella Film Festival had the opportunity to vote for a work in a ballot box deposited for that purpose. The final count has been decided by “Nick”, a film that has the merit of being the first shot and developed entirely in Andorra. It is the first film that is shot in Andorra throughout the history of the country of the Pyrenees.
“Nick” has already received 9 international awards and has been in 28 festival selections from around the world. Now you can add the prize of the spectators that you have received in Calella.
José Pozo won a Goya for the animated feature “El Cid”. Pozo is the promoter and creator of the Andorra Film Academy. He will be the first president of this body that should encourage dialogue between Andorran professionals and the administration. The objective is to create opportunities for audiovisual professionals in Andorra and not have to go to Spain or France to find work.
The director José Pozo has been these days in Calella participating in the Festival accompanied by the two main actresses of the film: Elisabet Terri and the American Molly Malcolm. In an interview for the official newspaper of the contest, the director of “Nick” recognizes that this project to create an Academy of Cinema of Andorra can be important for the Andorran audiovisual sector. “All the countries in the world defend their culture, no matter how small they may be, and nothing better sells a country than its films,” Pozo recalls.
